Filling

Filling is a method that restores a damaged tooth or restores teeth to their former function and appearance. While your dentist is filling your teeth, he first cleans the decayed tooth tissue. It cleans the caries-affected area, fills that gap with filling material, and tries to prevent bacteria from re-entering the cavities and rotting.

How is filling treatment done?

As the first step, the remaining tooth tissue is made ready for filling. If there is an old filling that needs to be removed at this stage or if the caries has been cleaned, the remaining tooth tissue is purified from them. After this process, as a second step, the gap formed is filled by selecting the appropriate material according to the position of the tooth in the mouth, its function, aesthetic requirements and the size of the filling. During these procedures, local anesthesia can be applied so that the patient does not feel pain. Finally, the compatibility of the filling with other teeth is checked. If there is any excess that will disturb the patient, it is removed.

In which cases is filling treatment performed?

It is applied to teeth that have lost their essence for various reasons, cannot fulfill the chewing function, do not look aesthetically pleasing, or are broken, cracked or decayed as a result of trauma.

Filling is applied to decayed, broken or damaged teeth for any reason. Deformed teeth regain their former appearance and function after treatment.

What should be considered after filling treatment?

If the filling treatment was performed under anesthesia, food should not be eaten before the effect of anesthesia has passed. Eating before the anesthesia wears off can cause biting of the tongue or lips. After the procedures applied to the upper jaw, the effect of anesthesia may last for approximately 3 hours, and for the lower jaw posterior group teeth for approximately 4-5 hours. The duration of anesthetic effect may differ from person to person.

Depending on the filling material used, the time to eat after the procedure may vary. Physician's warnings should be taken into account in this regard.

Is sensitivity normal after filling treatment?

Pain and sensitivity that can last up to 12 hours in the treated tooth after the filling process is considered normal. In this case, the patient can use the painkiller that the physician deems appropriate. If you have pain that lasts for 12 hours and gets worse, it is recommended to consult your doctor. Depending on the size of the tooth filling, that is, the proximity of the living tissue of the tooth, cold and hot sensitivity may occur.

How long does the filling treatment take?

It depends on the position of the filling in the mouth, its size, the materials used, the number of fillings if more than one filling will be made in the mouth, and the patient's compliance with the treatment.

What to do if a tooth filling falls out?

First of all, even if there is no pain, an appointment should be made from the dentist for the new tooth filling. Consumption of hard foods should be avoided to prevent new damage to occur until the appointment date. This area should be brushed more carefully and kept clean, this area should not be used as much as possible while eating.

How long does a dental filling take?

With the developing technology, the connection between the filling material and the tooth tissue has increased as much as possible. However, in some cases, the filling may need to be renewed for various reasons. At the beginning of these; Recurrent caries may occur due to the habit of clenching teeth or consuming hard objects, the fracture of the filling or the deterioration of the connection between the filling and the tooth tissue, or the damage to the filling as a result of trauma.
